Ahoy, mateys

Yesterday, lil sis and I trucked on down to Annapolis, MD, a short 30 min drive from DC (or 45 min if you get lost going thru downtown.) Annapolis is of course home to the famous US Naval Academy but also boasts a quaint little downtown complete with a postcard perfect dock area and a bunch of unique boutiques and eateries lining Main Street.

The Naval Academy campus was quite impressive--well maintained with beautiful architecture and oozing with history. The cadets should feel lucky to take the chemistry courses and practice lacrosse at this place. We had to smile every time we passed the newly enrolled freshmen sporting their dress-whites all around town. (Class of 2010? I am so very old old old.)

The weather was extremely cooperative--clear skies, mild and breezy--encouraging us to spend most of our day in Annapolis: a brunch of Eggs Florentine & a crabcake sandwich (a must-we're in MD!) in a garden patio while playing a game of Scrabble (ok, ok, "ew" is not a word, but "ducting" definitely is), a game of frisbee on one of the practice fields on the USNA grounds, and a promenade through town while enjoying homemade local ice cream. So that's how it was: a simple, but thoroughly satisfying Labor Day in a Mid-Atlantic coastal town.
